I spent years 0-18 in New Jersey and got the HELL out as FAST as I could. I’ve worked in education and activism in cities all over the country. I came to Texas five years ago… because of a girl! Five years later, I married her! About the only thing I’d ever agree with Hank Williams Jr. on is our love of Texas women.
For four years, going on five, I’ve taught US history at Midland ISD’s alternative program, Coleman High School, because I find it very rewarding to work with kids that struggle. Due to their struggles, and my own, I am a fierce mental health advocate. But my students and their life circumstances have vividly and compellingly shown me that, despite a tremendous amount of oil wealth, The Permian Basin refuses to adequately take care of its own. I spend my time ensuring my students both graduate from high school, and know a good bit about their country when they do. However, when I think about the state of our country, its economic inequalities, its discriminatory social systems, and our government’s turn to far right ideologies and policies, I wonder, what the HELL have we done? What kind of world are we leaving them? Will my students make it? Simply educating them has its limits. The only way our country can be re-transformed into a place that facilitates and nurtures a kid’s potential is through national political transformation. This is why I’m running to be your congressman. I promise to weaponize my knowledge of history and FIGHT for that future.
